The Needles Highway in the Black Hills, South Dakota

The Needles Highway in South Dakota is in Custer State Park in the Black Hills. It is part of Highway 87 (SD 87). The northern 14 miles (23 km) of the highway 87 is also known as the Needles Highway. The Needles Highway, along with the concurrency with US 16A, are also part of the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway. Portions of the highway are also a section of Custer State Park’s Wildlife Loop. We spend a lot of time in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I have a million pictures of Mount Rushmore from one view or another. But my favorite views and pictures I have taken of Mount Rushmore are not even in the National Park. Over the years I have found views of the monument that I prefer.
