HAPPY BIRTHDAY YELLOWSTONE NP!
Seventeen years after Yellowstone became a National Park on March 1, 1872. Almost to the day, Mattie Culver died of Tuberculosis on March 2, 1889. She and her husband were the winter caretakers of the Firehole Inn. Mattie is still buried where the Firehole once stood. On the banks of the Firehole River in Yellowstone’s Geyser Basin.
I make this post every year, to keep her memory alive. And so you all can find her on your summer road trips to the park. If you would like to learn more about Mattie and how to find her click here
