Nike Basketball introduced a new material in the late 90s, Foamposite. We received the Nike Air Foamposite One “Royal” designed by Eric Avar in 1997. Avar originally came up with the idea in 1994, and after three years of development, the shoes finally arrived at retailers. None other than Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway wore this pair on the court, causing a craze. In 2024, Nike will bring the shoes back for the fans.
Table of Contents
At one point, the hype was high for the Foamposite One. Almost every release would sell out. However, this only lasted a few years, and they would once again sit on shelves. Nike looks to revive the silhouette in 2023 and 2024 by bringing back classic colorways. Amongst the likes of the “Eggplant”, “Anthracite”, and “Galaxy”, the original “Royal” is sure to help drive the model into consumers’ hands.
Releasing in its original form, this Nike Air Foamposite One comes with Royal across the Foamposite shell. The same shade of Blue appears on the carbon fiber mid-foot shank plate, outlines the Swoosh logo by the toe, stripped on the pull tabs, and branding. Other details include Black accents and a translucent rubber outsole.

Note: There is a possibility that “Royal” Foamposite One will feature “International Blue,” a different shade of Blue. We recently reported on the “International Blue” Air Foamposite One, which features the same color blocking. Our mock-up matches the “International Blue” shade by Nike, however, it could be the new shade of Blue used for the “Royal” pair. We are currently waiting for official word from Nike.
